The Chancery Hotel Dublin

Discovering Dublin 8

News & Blog

You’ll see references throughout this website (and elsewhere) to the historical significance of the neighbourhood where The Chancery is located and all of this is true and verifiable fact. But – did you know that this postcode – Dublin 8 – has also been named (by Time Out Magazine) as one of the world’s coolest neighbourhoods. Who knew? Well we kinda did but here’s just a few things to see and do – all just a short stroll from the lobby.

Guinness Storehouse

On your way to or from the Guinness Storehouse (not necessarily ‘cool’ per se but it needs to be ticked off the list) stop by St Catherine’s graveyard park – originally dating to 1552, burials ceased in 1894. The cemetery is now a small public park featuring some beautiful and poignant retained headstones, mature trees and a beautiful Jim Flavin sculpture / seat ‘Adult & Child’. A little gem.

Thomas St

On Thomas St – still a bustling market street of butcher’s shops, betting offices and real life – you’ll find some of the very best Neapolitan Pizza in the city. Coke Lane Pizza operates a wood-burning oven from a shipping container in a courtyard behind a cool bar called Lucky’s. Great drinks, DJs, young folks. Just a few doors down you’ll find some really great Korean Food in a place called Space Jaru. It’s affordable, authentic and delicious. Eat some Fried Chicken and Kimchi and pick up one of the super-cute Totes!.

Francis Street

Stroll on to Francis Street a block over and browse a really eclectic mix of shopping, eating and drinking in ‘the Antiques Quarter’. Molloy’s award winning Off-licence stocks a wonderful selection of Irish made gins and whiskeys (including many from the Teelings Distillery just down the street). You’ll find fine antique furniture, decorative pieces and art in the many long established shops along the street, from Victorian to Art Deco.

Newer additions are Space Out Sister – wonderful vintage and designer lingerie and Hopeless Botanics, beautiful plants and growing accessories. Oh – and hit up Two Pups for great brunch and coffee. You may not be able to carry all of the incredible antiques and plants home with you but the stories and memories you make on your way around should fit just fine in the overhead compartment…
